Conference on “The 20th Anniversary of PfP and Future of NATO Partnerships" PDF Print E-mail

On 11-12 April 2014, ISISC was represented by Dr. Valerio de Divitiis, Research Fellow, at the Senior Partnership Conference on “The 20th Anniversary of PfP and Future of NATO Partnerships,” hosted by the NATO International School of Azerbaijan (NISA) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Baku.

The event marked an opportunity for discussing achievements, current objectives and challenges of the NATO Partnership for Peace Program (PfP) that was established in January 1994. The role of PfP in the re-emerging Euro-Atlantic security architecture and relations with individual partners was also addressed. Participants focused on the necessity for PfP to be re-designed according to the evolving security scenario, particularly in light of the political crisis affecting NATO Partner countries. In order to ensure successful continuation and sustainability of PfP, it was stressed the urgency to set the ground at high political level to agree on new priorities. This calls for comprehensive action due to the wide geographical scope of PfP, taking into account, inter alia, Afghanistan post-2014 phase.

A final session was dedicated to facilitate exchange on research co-operation opportunities and develop ideas, taking advantage of the NATO Science for Peace and Security Programme (SPS).

The meeting was attended by more than 70 experts, from all over the world, mainly government officials, officers from national agencies for the management of confiscated assets and from other international organizations, academics, members of the judiciary and law enforcement officers.
