In 2003, ISISC was selected by the Italian government (who assumed responsibility for judicial sector reform under the 2001 Bonn Agreement) to provide Afghanistan with integrated training for judges, prosecutors and officials working in the new Ministry of Justice.
Since then, ISISC has been providing technical assistance regarding rule of law, due process, criminal procedure issues and human rights in a number of different countries including Iraq, Afghanistan, Egypt, former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, etc.
ISISC’s overall objective is to strengthen the Rule of Law in new justice systems, with a renewed focus on human rights. While the political transitions of post-conflict countries demand a variety of social, economic, and political programs, their long-term success also requires the development and implementation of comprehensive domestic policies to enable justice and protect fundamental rights. ISISC has been involved in several initiatives to contribute to these broad social and political processes.
