ISISC has just published the final publication of the research project on “Fighting Impunity and Promoting International Justice” which the Institute has been implementing for the past 2 years. The two-volume, 1,960-page compilation is entitled “The Pursuit of International Criminal Justice: A World Study on Conflicts, Victimization, and Post-Conflict Justice”. The volumes include the International Guidelines on Post-Conflict Justice: The Chicago Principles, special reports on international criminal justice and conflict victimization, thematic reports on PCJ mechanisms, as well as regional reports and summaries of the project’s conferences.
The publication aims to: - bring attention to the fact that numerous conflicts have occurred, with a vast number of victims, in which there was no adequate post-conflict mechanism providing for justice and accountability; - sensitize the world to the plight of the victims and ensure that conflicts resulting in millions of deaths are not forgotten and are adequately addressed; - note that when issues presented in a conflict are not dealt with through the proper mechanism of post-conflict justice, a nation is contributing to the insecurity and perpetuation of these conflicts; and - highlight possible modalities, and suggest guidelines that must be adhered to in order to effectively combine the quest for stability and reconciliation with accountability and justice.
This unique publication will serve as a guide to assist the UN and governments in advancing accountability and avoiding impunity. Copies of the publication will be distributed internationally to representatives of the ICC; officials of the United Nations, IGOs and national governments; human rights practitioners; as well as members of civil society and NGOs.
